Yin Yang

I recently had a discussion with one of my friends regarding balancing acts. We were having a casual discussion and she introduced me to the world of "Yin Yang". Yin Yang, as per Wikipedia, "is a term used to describe how seemingly disjunct or opposing forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, giving rise to each other in turn".

The idea is quite elementary and it explains the purpose of existence. The quest for the purpose of existence, sooner or later, attracts every individual. I never got an absolute idea about my existence. Yin Yang symbol explains the relation amidst incongruent entities. It is space in wholeness and wholeness in space. The two parts of the symbol, if adjusted in any other fashion, will lead to a "closed" space or an "open" space and will appear unstable. Yin Yang symbolizes the act of balance.

Nature, too, possesses an inherent tendency of staying balanced. You can figure it out from the symmetry of the objects around you, viz., leaves, flowers, wings, claws, human body parts, sun, moon, stars, solar system and the list is endless. Anything, that is, asymmetrical will stand itself out of the clutter and will appear vulnerable all the time. I never figured out as why I am a part of this world. I know I am unique and different in many ways but that is no justification to my existence. But one thing is for sure; I am somehow striking the chords of balance. I am quite sure that there is something exactly opposite to me and I am the counter-balance for the same.

It might be possible that our death is nothing but an indication that the counter balance has ceased to exist. I, guess, this is one way to look at the purpose of our existence. We are striking balance, but how, I do not have any idea.

  1. Being technically a Buddhist I tend to see things a bit differently... a q for your pov is: how do you explain the ever crazier world? The world is forever sicker etc...? Where's the balance? :p

  2. yes, i had heard about this yin-yang theory. But that was mostly taken as positive and negative energy that is in and around you. you have to keep the balance else, things may turn somewhat non-benevolent.

  3. @Ariadne...well sometimes we are at the receiving end....and hence the question. I do not have an answer for that but the only thing, call it a gut feeling or whatever, is that there has to be balance.

@Megha....I too read the similar explanations but I tried to juxtapose it with the purpose of existence....also balance is not always in our hands and hence I call it a tendency of nature...
